Indie Spinner Rack Issue #27

Funny story... ISR sits down for pizza, beer & comics talk with Night Fisher's R. Kikuo Johnson & Marvel's Mythos painter Paolo Rivera! From their time at Rhode Island School of Design with David Mazzucchelli to hitting it big! RKJ tells all about his graphic novel from its beginnings, its road to Fantagraphics, to Time & Publisher's Weekly's Best of 2005 lists! Plus his 'Cher Simura' and Audubon stories from MOME! Paolo discusses his painted work for Marvel's origins series, Mythos, his process and influences, and being recently named Marvel's Hunk of the Month! Did you say big episode? Thank you, Captain Obvious!

Hey guys,
GREAT show! Really interesting and I was excited to hear some first hand reports about David Mazzucchelli teaching at R.I.S.D.
Also, having gone to art school myself (Mass Art), I always like to hear about [comic] artist's take on their art-school experiences.

Awesome (ding) episode!!

Really a fun conversation, and Nightfisher is an amazing work. Kikuo's work reminds me of Eddie Campbell's Alec stories, not so much in the surface craft of the art, but in the storytelling chops and idiosyncratic point of view (and the fictive autobiography as a jumping off point).

I'll have to check out Paolo's work, I don't keep up with the long underwear books as much, but Mythos sounds really cool. The Wall of Doom is incredible - glad you posted the pic.

Best episode yet, a real coup for you guys.

Looking forward to issue 28.

Yo indy sistahs!

Sorry it's been a bit....had a lot of work to do this week.

MR - Glad you liked the show MR. I loved hearin' the Mazzuchelli-isms. I'll see if we can't get one or two more out of Kikuo at Mocca.

Alister - Hey buddy, yeah...Kikuo does kinda have that Alec vibe going on. I can't wait to see what his next work will be.

Andy...glad you enjoyed it...it was our MAN MASS show. Oh and keep your ears peeled for next episode. hmmmmm......

Thanks guys.
